Voter Information for Early Voters

BND Voter Guide Published

The Belleville News-Democrat published their St. Clair County candidate voter guide on Thursday, September 29. As of this writing, the guide is a subscriber exclusive, so I will save you the cost of a digital subscription and let you know my opponent has not responded to the questions (as of September 30). If you are interested in my responses, I've posted them on my campaign website.

Early Voting In-Progress

St. Clair County polls are open at the County Courthouse in Belleville. If you want to vote early in person, you can cast your ballot there. The county has mailed out the vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots, if you applied for one. They should be arriving in mailboxes next week. Please consider delivering the completed vote-by-mail ballot by hand to avoid delivery delays with USPS. I will make an effort to follow up with voters in District 2 who have applied for VBM ballots throughout October to ensure they have 1) received the ballot applied for, and 2) any assistance needed to deliver the ballot to the county.

Vote NO on Proposed Amendment to the 1970 Illinois Constitution

All Illinois voters will be asked to vote on "For the proposed addition of Section 25 to Article I of the Illinois Constitution." Please vote NO on this measure. You can find my analysis of this amendment on my website which I published on Labor Day. In summary, this amendment would prohibit the state AND private companies from lowering wages set through collective bargaining, effectively increasing the cost of living, the cost of doing business, and raising property taxes.

Do you care about election integrity?

Once you've cast your early vote, you still have a chance to ensure others can vote as well: we need election judges and poll watchers for the upcoming elections. Election judges are paid positions and you are sworn in as a government official for the day to ensure the elections are carried out according to law. Ideally, there are an equal number of Republican and Democrat judges at each poll location to ensure both sides remain honest. Poll watchers can be nominated by the county parties, candidates (like myself), or community interest groups who want to ensure a fair and well run election. Poll watchers cannot interact with voters but can point out possible issues to the election judges and/or report them to their nominating source. Please contact me, cm4cb@carymathews.info, if you are interested in performing this critical civic duty this election.
